Hi friends,

There’s a lot to share from the pasture this month—babies, updates, October plans, and a little something from Kerri’s Corner. Grab a coffee and settle in. ❤️

The Rock, a young alpaca cria at Eagle Eye Farm

❤️ The Rock Gave Us Another Scare

If you’ve been following The Rock’s story, you know this little guy hasn’t exactly had the easiest start.

He was born dysmature and needed extra help right from the beginning. His little legs weren’t quite ready either, and for a while he had to wear splints on his legs to help support them.

There were bottles. There were splints. There were lots and lots of weigh-ins.

And eventually there were ZOOMIES. ❤️

We started watching this little guy get stronger and stronger. And then this week, he suddenly lost weight at two consecutive weigh-ins, once overnight and then again during the day.

That’s something we take very seriously with a baby alpaca. So out came his little coat. We watched him closely. And once again, we found ourselves worrying about our little Rock.

And then? The very next morning, he’d gained it back. ❤️

That’s farm life. One day you’re worried sick about a tiny cria. The next morning you’re looking at the scale thinking, Well… okay then. 😂

We’re still keeping a close eye on him, of course. But right now, The Rock is doing well.

Considering where this little guy started, with splints on those tiny legs, we’ll happily celebrate every good weigh-in, every zoomie, and every little bit of progress.

You just never know with these little ones. But The Rock has already shown us he’s pretty darn good at surprising us. ❤️

Baby alpaca crias exploring the pasture at Eagle Eye Farm

🦙 Baby Season at Eagle Eye Farm

The Rock isn’t the only baby keeping us entertained.

We’ve had quite the cria season, and the pasture is currently full of little personalities beginning to emerge.

Some are brave. Some stick pretty close to Mom. Some have discovered zoomies. And some seem to believe their primary responsibility at Eagle Eye Farm is annoying the other babies. 😂

We’re getting to know them right along with you, and you’ll be seeing much more of them.

Alpaca dressed in a Halloween costume at Eagle Eye Farm

❤️ You Guys Showed Up. Thank You.

Recently, I asked whether anyone would be willing to help us purchase collars for the babies.

I wasn’t quite prepared for the response. SO many of you said yes. Thank you. Truly.

It’s one of those moments that reminds me just how invested so many of you have become in these animals. You don’t simply watch them, you know their names, follow their stories, and genuinely care about them.

And your response got us thinking…

🎃 Sponsor an October Costume

You guys LOVE seeing the animals dressed up. So instead of doing costumes once or twice around Halloween this year, we’re thinking:

Why not make the entire MONTH of October ridiculous? 😂🎃

Bentley. The alpacas. The babies. Maybe some animals who will immediately regret living at Eagle Eye Farm. 😂

We want to create an entire month of Halloween costumes, photos, and videos. And we’d love to let YOU be part of it.

🎃 Costume sponsorship: $35

Your donation will purchase a costume that we’ll use for our October content, and we’re planning to have a LOT of fun with these.

And thank you again to everyone who helped with the baby collars. The generosity of this community continues to amaze us. ❤️

❤️ Kerri's Corner: Colostrum

Kerri holding a glass of bovine colostrum supplement at Eagle Eye Farm

If there’s one supplement I didn’t need anyone to convince me was interesting, it was colostrum.

Because at Eagle Eye Farm, we are VERY aware of just how important colostrum is.

Colostrum is the first milk produced by a mama after she gives birth. And whenever one of our alpacas has a baby, one of the things we watch most closely is whether that cria gets enough of it.

That’s why you’ll see us watching a newborn like hawks:

Did the baby stand? Did the baby find Mom? Is the baby nursing? Is the baby getting enough?

If a cria isn’t nursing adequately, we intervene. One of the things we can use is bovine (cow) colostrum by bottle.

So when I learned about bovine colostrum as a supplement for people, you can imagine why it immediately caught my attention. 😂

Now, an adult human taking colostrum is obviously not the same thing as a newborn alpaca getting the maternal antibodies it needs after birth. But knowing what I know from years of caring for newborn animals made me very interested in learning more about it.

It’s now part of the wellness stack I personally use every day.

And if you’ve been curious about the colostrum you’ve seen me drinking, there’s currently a way to save:

Of all the supplements I use, this one feels particularly appropriate for the woman who spends cria season obsessing over whether every baby got enough colostrum. ❤️🦙
