Every November, we get the same question: "Are you really open on Thanksgiving?" Yes! We really are. We're open 10am to 4pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and that includes Thanksgiving. The animals don't take holidays off from eating, so neither do we.
A new kind of family tradition
Think about a typical Thanksgiving. Lots of food, lots of family, maybe a football game, and at some point everybody gets a little restless. A trip to the farm is a perfect way to get everyone outside, stretch your legs and do something together that isn't sitting on the couch in a food coma.
It's also a great way to entertain out-of-town guests. Your cousins from out of state probably don't have kangaroos and porcupines down the road. Show off a little!
Plan around the meal
- Morning visit: Burn some energy before the big meal. Great for kids who are bouncing off the walls.
- Afternoon visit: Walk off that second slice of pie. Just remember we close at 4pm and guests should be off the farm by then, so plan accordingly.
- The day after: We're open then too, if you'd rather skip the shopping crowds.
What to bring
It's late November in Wisconsin, so dress warmly. Layers, hats, gloves and boots you don't mind getting a little dirty. Tours run rain, shine or snow. And bring your camera, because a family photo with a fluffy alpaca beats a photo in front of the fireplace any day.
A season for gratitude
Thanksgiving also gives me a chance to stop and say thank you. To everyone who has visited, booked a party, brought a school group, followed along online, shopped at All Things Sheared or simply told a friend about us: thank you. This farm is a labor of love, and it's your support that makes it possible to share it with so many people.
And of course, thank you to our incredible crew, who show up every day (holidays included!) to care for more than 130 animals across 14 species. They are the reason this farm runs, and the reason people tell us it's the cleanest farm they've ever seen.
What we're thankful for on the farm
- Healthy, happy animals
- A team that loves them as much as we do
- Visitors who come back again and again
- Every little kid who leaves with a new favorite animal
