After a long Wisconsin winter, spring on the farm feels like the whole place is waking up and stretching. The animals are livelier, the days are longer, and honestly, so are our smiles. If you've been waiting for the snow to melt before you visit, here's what to expect.
The animals are feeling it too
Spring is a fun time to watch the herd. The alpacas are still wearing their full winter fleece (they get their haircut later in the season), so they look extra fluffy and a little ridiculous in the best way. The goats are bouncing off anything they can climb, the pigs are hunting for every sunny spot, and our mini Highland cattle are working on shedding their winter coats. With more than 130 animals across 14 species, there is always somebody doing something worth watching.
Dress for the season (and the ground)
Spring weather around here can't make up its mind. It might be sunny and 60 one day and sleeting the next, so layers are your friend. Wear whatever is comfortable for walking, and pick shoes you don't mind getting a little dirty. We work hard to keep the farm clean (people tell us all the time it's the cleanest farm they've ever visited), but it's still a working farm with some uneven ground, and spring thaw is spring thaw.
We're open, rain or shine
Here's something a lot of people don't realize: we're open 10am to 4pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Tours run rain, shine or snow. A little drizzle doesn't bother the animals one bit, and some of our favorite visits have happened on gray spring days when the farm is quiet and the animals are extra curious.
Tips for a great spring visit
- Plan for an hour or two. That's about how long most families spend with us, and it gives you time to meet everyone without rushing.
- Bring the kids. Kids 2 and under are free, and strollers are welcome.
- Bring your camera. Fluffy pre-shearing alpacas are peak photo material. Trust me.
- Ask questions. Our staff love talking about the animals, and they'll happily tell you who's who.
- Arrive with time to spare. Guests should plan to be off the farm by about 4pm so the animals (and our crew) can wrap up the day.
Easy to get to
We're at N7802 County Road F in River Falls, Wisconsin, about 35 to 40 minutes from Minneapolis-St. Paul. Look for the big green Eagle Eye Farm sign and turn at that drive. Parking is free and right on site.
