Here's a question I've asked myself many times: is there anything better than a fluffy animal? I don't think so. And right now, as winter winds down, our animals are at their absolute fluffiest. So we decided it was time to celebrate. Introducing our very first Fluff Fest, happening this April!

Why now?

Spring is a special window on the farm. Our alpacas have spent the whole winter growing their fleece, and they're still wearing all of it before shearing season. That means maximum teddy bear energy. It's a short window, too. Once the alpacas get their yearly haircut, the fluff is gone until it grows back. So if you've ever wanted to see our herd at peak floof, this is the time.

Meet the fluff squad

Alpacas might be the headliners, but they're not the only fluffy friends on the farm:

  • Alpacas: Our Huacaya alpacas are all crimp and puff right now, and Viper, our one Suri, is showing off those silky locks. Fun fact: Eagle Eye Farm was named the #1 small alpaca farm in the country in 2022 and the #1 medium alpaca farm in 2023 by the Alpaca Owners Association.
  • English Angora bunnies: If clouds had ears, they'd look like this.
  • Valais Blacknose sheep: Often called the cutest sheep in the world, and their woolly coats make a strong case.
  • Mini Highland cattle: Still rocking those shaggy winter coats and dramatic bangs.
  • Taz the llama: The alpacas' taller cousin brings some extra fluffy flair.

Why fluff matters

It's not just about looking cute (though they absolutely do). Fiber animals grow their coats for warmth, and that fiber can become incredibly cozy things like yarn and socks. Fluff Fest is a great chance to learn a little about fiber, how animals grow it and why shearing is so important for keeping them comfortable as the weather warms up.

Tips for Fluff Fest

  • Dress for spring in Wisconsin. That means layers. It could be 70 degrees or snowing. Possibly both.
  • Wear shoes you don't mind getting muddy. Spring is spring.
  • Bring your camera. Peak fluff photos are a must.
  • Bring the whole family. Kids 2 and under are free, and strollers are welcome.
